Sayreville, New Jersey is a borough located on the Raritan River in Middlesex County. The first settlers of the area were Native Americans from the Tribes of the Navesink who made their homes along the South River. The borough was originally called Roundabout and was an important river port. In the 1870s it was renamed Sayreville and incorporated in 1876. Because there were plentiful clay deposits, the brick industry flourished until 1970. Sayreville still remains known as an industrial area, but with the addition of technology companies and the continually growing residential areas, the borough landscape has changed.
